Ceramic coating might be the most hyped product in detailing, so let us skip the marketing and talk about what it actually does for a car that lives in Los Angeles.
What a ceramic coating really is
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that chemically bonds to your clear coat and cures into a hard, glossy, hydrophobic layer. Think of it as a semi-permanent shield. Water beads and rolls off, dirt has a harder time sticking, and UV rays hit the coating instead of your paint.
What it does well
- Serious UV protection, which matters enormously in Southern California.
- Resistance to salt air, water spots, bird droppings, and freeway fallout.
- Deep gloss that lasts for years instead of the weeks you get from wax.
- Much easier washes. Grime releases with far less effort, which also means fewer swirl marks over time.
What it does not do
A coating is not armor. It will not stop rock chips, door dings, or a careless key. It also will not hide existing swirl marks or scratches, which is why proper prep matters so much. Coating over damaged paint just seals the damage in, so most coating jobs start with paint correction to perfect the surface first.
So is it worth it?
For a car that parks outside in LA, usually yes. You are trading one bigger investment now for years of protection, easier maintenance, and stronger resale presentation. For a leased car you are returning in a year, or a garage queen that rarely sees daylight, a quality wax or sealant may be all you need.
Every coating job we do is quoted per vehicle based on size and paint condition, and Miles will tell you straight if your car does not need it. Call or text (562) 736-6391 for an honest recommendation.
